On June 16, 2009 Apple deployed an update to OS X 10.5.7 for Java via Software Updates. This update has broken a few things that allow for Roes to start and run on updated systems.
There are many issues that have been brought to our attention, please read the bold items to see which one fits your issue.
When launching roes from the website, a text file opens rather than Roes.
After trying to open roes from the website a file called launch.jnlp should be saved either to your DESKTOP or DOWNLOADS folder.
1. Right click or CONTROL+click the launch.jnlp file.
2. Select “Open With”
3. Select “Other”

2. Click on your Hard Drive, commonly named “Macintosh Hard Drive”.
3. Follow the path listed:
Macintosh HD/System/Library/CoreServices/ Click on Java Web Start
4. Check “Always Open With”
5. Click Open

Roes should now launch.
Roes Icon just bounces and closes in the Dock, Roes will not start
1. To resolve these startup errors, using Finder go to the following path:
Macintosh HD/System/Library/CoreServices/
2. Locate Java Web Start.app and copy it to the clipboard, then paste it into:
Applications/Utilities
3. Using a web browser, go to http://www.softworksroes.com/ROES/labs/DPImaging/
2 warning windows will display – one to trust the application and another to allow it unrestricted access to the system. Click OK to both of these and ROES should open as normal.
Shortcut, Application Icons
You will need to know your machine type to proceed. Go to the Apple Menu in the upper left hand corner and select “About this Mac”.
Under Processor, your machine type will be listed.

Core 2 Duo & Xeon Systems: To get a new shortcut, open Java Preferences.app from the Utilties folder and click the Network tab, then click View cache at the lower right to bring up the Java Cache Viewer. Right click on ProDPI roes and Install desktop shortcuts.
Core Duo and Non-Intel Mac (G5, G4, G3) Systems: Shortcuts seem to be able to be created but WILL NOT EXECUTE. The temporary fix is to download and save the launch.jnlp file from our roes page. To do so, follow the steps below.
1. Go to
http://www.softworksroes.com/ROES/labs/DPImaging/
2. Right click on “Direct Launch by clicking here”
3. Safari: Click “Download linked file as” Firefox: “Save link as”
4. Save to your desktop.
5. This launch file will launch ProDPI roes. Use this rather than any other shortcuts. The icon should have a logo with a coffee cup on it rather than the ProDPI logo.
